Pope: Europe, the Eucharist and daily life
6/1/2012 5:27:51 PM

Pope Benedict XVI will not be physically travelling to Dublin for the 50th International Eucharist Congress (June 10-17), but his prayer intentions for the month of June leave little room for doubt that he will be spiritually following pilgrims in Ireland every step of the way.
His general prayer intention for June is: “That believers may recognize in the Eucharist the living presence of the Risen One who accompanies them in daily life”.

While his missionary intention is: "That Christians in Europe may rediscover their true identity and participate with greater enthusiasm in the proclamation of the Gospel".

“The theme of communion has yet not been sufficiently explored”, says Fr. Brenda

5/17/2012 5:53:41 PM

In his 2010 Letter to the Catholics of Ireland, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of his hope that the 50th International Eucharistic Congress would be part of the process of healing and renewal for the community in the wake of the abuse scandal. When the week long Congress opens in Dublin’s RDS arena Sunday, June 10th, a large granite rock hewn from the Wicklow mountains will be unveiled, engraved with a prayer composed by a survivor of clerical abuse. Listen: RealAudioMP3

It has been called ‘The Healing Stone’ and it will remain as a permanent reminder of the human toll of the abuse of children, a lasting memorial to the bravery and heroism of victims, a constant prayer for reconciliation within the Church i

Michael Jackson, the Anglican Archbishop of Dublin. Listen: RealAudioMP3

It may be the 50th global gathering of the Catholic Church on the Eucharist, but from the outset the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Diarmuid Martin, decided this Congress should also become an opportunity to further the ecumenical journey in Ireland, which for historical reasons has often been an uphill climb. On the opening day of the Congress, Monday June 11th, pilgrims wil

4/19/2012 5:18:00 PM

Over the past few months, in the silence of an ancient Abbey nestled amid the woodlands and waterways of Ireland’s Blackwater Valley, a community of 35 nuns have been praying and working towards Congress. They are Ireland’s only community of enclosed Cistercian women religious from St Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn and they have been given the task of producing the 250 thousand Eucharistic breads for consecration at the Masses that will be the focal point the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, taking place in Dublin, Ireland June 10-17 next. In their own way and according to their specific charism, they are answering the call to Congress, to “Communion with Christ and with one another”. Liste ...»
