Archbishop Kaigama: Pray for Nigeria

(Vatican Radio) The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama is reiterating his call to the faithful in Nigeria to pray for peace and stability in the country. His appeal comes after suspected Islamist militants killed dozens of people on Sunday in an attack on three Nigerian villages.

One of the attacks targeted worshippers at a church a few kilometres from Chibok, the scene of an abduction of more than 200 school girls in April.

Speaking to Vatican Radio the Archbishop said a National Call to Prayer would begin in July.

“The Catholic Bishops have instructed that there should be prayers going on in (the) home, in families. Every Saturday we have instructed that the Rosary should be prayed by family members in the evening and in Churches…”

The high point of the six month prayer programme is the National Rosary Prayer Pilgrimage to be held at the National Christian (Ecumenical) Centre, Abuja; from the evening of Thursday, November 14 to the morning of Friday, November 15.

It will be attended by Bishops and Catholic faithful from all the 55 Archdioceses, dioceses and Vicariates in the country.

Archbishop Kaigama goes on to say that as a shepherd to his flock, he knows how afraid, angry and troubled they are and “we are hoping”, he says”that the government can do more and do it fast”.
