Pope appoints New Bishops for Philippines


The Holy Father on Friday, accepted the resignation presented by Bishop Jose R. Manguiran, from the pastoral care of the diocese of Dipolog (Philippines), in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law and nominated Fr. C. Severo Caermare, a priest of the Diocese of Dipolog, until now Director of the Saint Anthony parish, as the Bishop of Dipolog Diocese.

Similarly the Holy Father also accepted the resignation presented by Archbishop Paciano Aniceto from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of San Fernando (Philippines), in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law, and appointed Bishop Florentino Galang Lavarias, now Bishop of the Diocese of Iba, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of San Fernando Archdiocese.  

Bishop Florentino Galang Lavarias was born in Santa Ines, Mabalacat, Pampanga, in the Archdiocese of San Fernando (Philippines) on March 14, 1957. After attending elementary and secondary schools in Pampanga, Holy Angel University, where he studied has attended courses in Business Management. Later he studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of San Carlos.

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Fernando September 26, 1985.

He exercised his priestly ministry in the following offices:

Vice-Pastor of the Cathedral of San Fernando (1985-1986);

Spiritual director of Mother of Good Counsel Seminary (1986-1989);

Director of Pre-College of Mother of Good Counsel Seminary (1989-1995);

Director of College Department of Mother of Good Counsel Seminary (1995-1996);

Director of the Committee for the formation of priests (1995-1997);

Pastor of the Lord's Ascension Parish in San Fernando (1996-1998);

Member and then Head of the Main Staff of the Assisted Intensive Renewal of the Episcopal Conference (1998-2004).

He was elected June 19, 2004 as Bishop of Iba, and was consecrated on August 12, 2004.

 

Bishop elect, Severo C. Caermare was born in Poblacion, Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte, in the Diocese of Dipolog on October 22, 1969. He studied philosophy at the Cor Jesu Seminary and St. Vincent College in Dipolog City and theology at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City where he earned a Master's degree in Theology and Pastoral Ministry.

It 'was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Dipolog on April 22, 1996.

He held the following positions after his ordination to priesthood:

Administrator of Our Mother of Perpetual Help parish, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte (1996-1997);

Trainer at Cor Jesu Seminary in Dipolog City (1997-2002); Administrator of St. Isidore parish, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte (2002-2003);

Trainer at St. Mary's Theologate of Ozamis City (2003-2004);

Rector, liturgist and professor at Cor Jesu Seminary in Dipolog City (2004-2006);

Trainer, professor and dean of studies at St. Mary's Theologate of Ozamis City (2006-2007);

Rector and professor at St. Mary's Theologate of Ozamis City (2003-2004).

From 2013 he was Chief Executive at St. Antonio de Padua parish in Gulayon, Dipolog City. From the 1st of May this year, he has been Rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Dipolog City.
