Pope appoints new Archbishop for Osaka, Japan


The Holy Father accepted the resignation presented by Archbp. Leo Jun Ikenaga, SJ from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Osaka, Japan, in accordance with canon 401 ยง 1 of the Code of Canon Law, and appointed Bp. Manyo Maeda Thomas Aquinas, presently Bishop of Hiroshima, as the Archbishop of Osaka.

Bishop Thomas Aquinas Manyo Maeda was born on March 3, 1949 in Kami-Goto, Nagasaki Prefecture. He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1975. On May 13, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Hiroshima. He was ordained Bishop on September 23, 2011.
