Sri Lankan bishops launch papal visit website

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka (CBCSL) has launched an official website for Pope Francis' upcoming trip to the country, scheduled for January 13-15.  The website, www.popefrancissrilanka.com, is available in English, Sinhala and Tamil, and contains information on the visit, events, liturgical celebrations and media accreditation.  CBCSL president, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo said that in Sri Lanka Pope Francis would be able to "experience the essence of the Asian culture".   "Sri Lanka is a country where people belong to various ethnic groups and religions. The pope will have the opportunity of experiencing the whole of Asia through his visit," the cardinal told reporters at a press conference on Friday in Colombo that was held to announce the website's launch.  Sri Lanka is the first leg of Pope Francis’ Asia trip, after which he will proceed to the Philippines, Jan. 15-19.  Details of the trip are not yet finalized.  (Source: UCAN)
