Pope sends message to university symposium


(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has sent a message to participants of the eleventh edition of the International Symposium of University Professors.

The event is being sponsored by the Office for Campus Ministry of the Vicariate of Rome in collaboration with the Ministry for Universities, education and scientific research, on the theme "The idea of ​​universities : investing in knowledge.

In the message signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, the Pope extends his cordial greetings to the organizers, and all those taking part, and expresses his appreciation for this timely initiative to reflect on the fundamental role of the academic institution in the education and  human and cultural development of the younger generation.

The Holy Father hopes that this Symposium will be enriched by the significant participation of representatives of various cultures and traditions, and will foster constructive dialogue concerning the fundamental contribution of Christian values ​​that have shaped  thought and art in different countries, and which constantly promote solidarity and respect for human dignity.

The Symposium runs from the 1st to the 4th of October.
