‘Vatican Weekend’ Saturday November 1, 2014

(Vatican Radio) ‘Vatican Weekend’ for Saturday November 1, 2014  begins with a report on the weekly general audience of Francis with pilgrims from across the world. This is followed by a glance at the Rome cemetery where the pope will celebrate Holy Mass on the evening of All Saints and on the eve of All Souls. To mark the centenary of the beginning of the Great War the bulk of the programme centres around a personal witness to World War I,  the story of Rifleman A.H. Tyler who while still a teenager finds himself fighting in the trenches on the front in France. A story recounted  by his daughter, our very own Jill Bevilacqua. The final segment relates to a reflection by Monsignor Peter Fleetwood of the Liverpool Archdiocese in England for the series ‘Why Bother? Staying Catholic despite it all.’, in which he shares a  conversation he once had with Saint John Paul II about  Marxism and contemporary philosophy only to go on to speak of Saints Peter and Paul.
