The train seat used by Pope Francis in South Korea has become such a sensation that part of the fare will go to fund a home for single mothers. The seat the Pope used for his train trip from Seoul to Daejeon during his apostolic visit to South Korea, August 13-18, 2014, has generated great interest in the local media, after the railway company announced that it would give a portion of the train fare for the seat to a charity of the local diocese. The Pope was to fly in a helicopter from Seoul to Daejeon on Aug. 15, but due to bad weather had to take a train instead. Last month, Bishop Lazzaro You Heung-sik of Daejeon had spoken about the decision by Korail, South Korea's main railway company. Between late August and late December, 15 million won (some $ 13,500) had been collected, which the director of Korail's local office handed over to Bishop Lazzaro. The prelate explained to AsiaNews that these annual donations would go to fund a shelter for single mothers. "It is wonderful that the seeds planted by Pope Francis in his trip to Korea will continue to bear fruit," he added. (Source: AsiaNews)
