Pope appoints New Bishop in Philippines


The Pope has appointed Rev. Marcelino Antonio Maralit, a priest of the Archdiocese of Lipa, until now pastor of Alitatag, Batangas as Bishop of Boac, Philippines.

Mons. Antonio Marcelino Maralit was born in Manila on May 18, 1969. He studied philosophy at St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary in Lipa City and theology at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, earning a licentiate in Sacred Theology. He later attended the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, in Rome, where he obtained a licentiate in Church History. He was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Lipa, March 13, 1995.

As a priest he served as the Vicar of Immaculate Conception parish, Bauan, Batangas (1995-1996); Professor at St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary in Lipa City (1996-1999), earlier in the post of Deputy Director of the Diocesan Commission for vocations and later as Director of the same commission; He was also Vice-Chancellor, Professor, Educator and Dean of Studies at St. Francis Theological Seminary (2003-2009); Rector of the St. Francis Theological Seminary (2009-2013). Finally, from 2013 until this day, has been pastor of the Invención de la Santa Cruz parish at Alitatag, Batangas and Member of the Council of Priests of the Archdiocese of Lipa.
