Pope appeals for peace in Libya and Ukraine

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has urged the international community to find peaceful solutions to the difficult situation in Libya and has prayed for peace in Ukraine.

Speaking after the General Audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope asked for prayers for our “Egyptian brothers who were killed in Libya three days ago for the mere fact of being Christians”.

Pope Francis prayed that the Lord may receive them in heaven and give comfort to their families and communities.

Remembering “all those who have died, those who have been wounded and all the refugees”, the Pope prayed for peace in the Middle East and in North Africa urging the intervention of the international community to work to find peaceful solutions to the crisis in Libya.

And greeting a group of Ukrainian bishops who are in the Vatican for their "ad limina" visit and were in the Square together with a group of Ukrainian pilgrims, the Pope said he joins them in praying that lasting peace may come to their homeland as soon as possible.
