Israelis go to polls on parliament elections

(Vatican Radio) Israelis were voting in parliament elections Tuesday, following a campaign focused on economic issues rather than fears of a nuclear Iran or the Israeli-Arab conflict.

Listen to Mark Weiss’ full report from Jerusalem:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking a fourth term in office, but it will be weeks of coalition before it is determined whether he will stay in power or be replaced by  Isaac Herzog of the centrist Zionist Union.

Voters are electing a 120-member parliament, casting ballots for a party list, rather than individual candidates. It typically takes weeks of negotiations for a governing coalition to be formed following the elections.
