Bishop wants dialogue for peace in Nagaland

A Catholic bishop in northeast India’s Nagaland state has called for dialogue for peace in the strife-torn state.  Bishop James Thoppil of the capital, Kohima, has stressed the need to accelerate dialogue process for peace, drawing attention to the suffering of the people caused by ethnic conflict.  The bishop’s call came while opening an evaluation meeting of the activities of Peace Channel, a movement founded in 2005, that aims to promote a culture of non-violence, justice and compassion by reaching out to the youth of India.  Bishop Thoppin said church and the civil society leaders need to work hand in hand to resolve the differences through a meaningful dialogue with the conflicting parties in order to give hope to children and youth.  He also said that Peace Channel should always come forward to work in conflict situation.  Father C P Anto, Director of Peace Channel said the initiative has been making difference in the life of children and youth by cultivating the culture of peace in their personal lives through regular inner peace exercises and capacity building programmes.  (Source: UCAN)
