Radio Maria Madagascar takes to the airwaves

The World Family of Radio Maria has announced that Radio Maria Madagascar has commenced broadcasts. It becomes the 19th Radio Maria station in Africa.

Radio Maria Madagascar began its broadcasts on 25 March in the Diocese of Ambositra.  The new Radio is situated in a predominantly Catholic area with Catholics accounting for nearly half of the total local population.

Madagascar is a developing country. Radio Maria will therefore not only contribute to education in the Catholic faith but also by its presence will promote unity, reconciliation and human welfare among the local people. The official opening is scheduled for 28 April 2015.

Radio Maria Africa Coordinator, Jean Paul Kayihura has told Vatican Radio that the Radio Maria World Family inaugurated Radio Maria Equatorial Guinea in December 2014. He attributed the latest developments to generous donations from listeners who took part in the 2013 – 2014 fundraising venture called, “Mariathon.” Kayihura hopes that soon another Radio Maria will open in Guinea Conakry.

Kayihura has further hailed the co-operation and collaboration that exists between Radio Maria and Radio Vatican. He said most Radio Maria stations re-transmit Vatican Radio programmes. “In principle, every Radio Maria re-transmits every day programmes and news from Radio Vatican,” the Radio Maria Africa Coordinator said.
