Abidjan: Centre de Formation Missionnaire d'Abidjan celebrates ten years

The Centre de Formation Missionnaire d’Abidjan (CFMA), an institute of theology in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire has celebrated its tenth anniversary by holding an international symposium on, New Evangelization -its implications as well as a search for the training necessary to implement it.

The symposium has brought out issues on the importance of linking the Gospel, history, culture and experience of faith together. During the symposium, it was established that there must always be a constant review and updating, “aggiornamento,” of both the training of those involved in evangelization and of methods in use. The symposium also called for the rediscovery of the mission of Christ, the emergence and formation of new apostolic workers, ordained ministers, baptised men and women, the religious who are able to proclaim and demonstrate prophetically their faith in today’s society.

Speaking at the same event, Archbishop Joseph Spiteri, Apostolic Nuncio in Côte d'Ivoire, said the proclamation of the Good News, the love and the infinite mercy of God must be at the heart of the mission and training for new evangelization. The mission, the Nuncio insisted, is truly the result of ecclesial communion. Fraternal charity, humility and attentiveness when exhibited in concrete ways always favours the proclamation of the Good News in the Christian community.

The challenge for new evangelization is fidelity to the Church of Christ.
