A journey to Rome in aid of Alzheimer's

(Vatican Radio) As the saying goes, “all roads lead to Rome”, and this was certainly the case for fundraiser Peter Skelly who recently arrived in the Italian capital after a 1500 mile journey to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research.

A native of Scotland, Peter set off from St Andrews in October of last year on his walk through Europe and to his final destination which included a stop off to see St Peter’s Basilica.

Peter’s long journey has also been a personal one. His mother has been living with Alzheimer's for a number of years and he is keen to see the development of new treatments for the disease.

Early symptoms of Alzheimer’s include memory loss, confusion and disorientation, and problems with language.

At the end of his great walk, Peter called into the studios of Vatican Radio to talk about his demanding trip and the importance of raising awareness of this devastating disease.
