Elections begin in the UK

In the United Kingdom, polls have opened and voting is underway as millions are expected to turn out in what is considered to be one of the tightest elections in recent history.  David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative Party hopes to return as Prime Minister, however in the last election this was only achieved by forming a coalition with the Liberal Democrats, which resulted in their leader Nick Clegg taking the role of Deputy Prime Minister.   This election however is faced with other contenders , Ed Miliband the leader of the Labour Party, could possibly form a coalition this time with the Liberal Democrats, as well as with the Scottish National Party.

Coalition under threat

David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party has taken aim at his former coalition partners who ensured that he was in power after last election.  While campaigning in a Liberal Democrat seat, he said “Nick Clegg has been clear. He said at the weekend he’d be just as happy to support a Labour-SNP government as a Conservative one.”  If David Cameron and the Conservative Party do not achieve a majority they have other parties with whom they can form a coalition.  One of the possibilities is forming a coalition with United Kingdom Independence Party, which has recently gained traction in the polls.

Elections too close to call

With the elections so close, it is uncertain as to the final result of the elections.  However one thing that is sure, is that whatever the outcome, compromise and concessions will have to be made by any party that hopes to run the country.
