As so-called Islamic State militants approach, Syrian Government forces have withdrawn from the Syria-Iraq border crossing of al-Tanf (al-Waleed).  Al-Tanf was the last government controlled border crossing between Iraq and Syria.  This latest movement comes as the militants took over the ancient city of Palmyra on Thursday afternoon.  The so-called Islamic State now controls 95,000 square kilometres of Syria, which is 50% of the country.
