A Christian colony in Pakistan has been terrorized by a Muslim mob that attacked and vandalized churches, looted homes and set them on fire, and threatened residents with death over an alleged desecration of the Holy Quran by a local resident. Violence rained down on the Christian colony of Dhup Sarri in Lahore, Sunday afternoon, after rumors spread that Humayun Masih was seen burning pages of Islam’s holy book, which in Pakistan is an act of blasphemy. Khalid Shehzad, a resident of the area told The Express Tribune, that most residents of Dhup Sarri fled for their lives and said that the accused is mentally instable and does not understand the sensitivity of the matter. The police intervened to stop the riots, using tear gas, but with little success. Even the deputy inspector general of police was injured. The Catholic church in the area was attacked; Bibles and religious books were burned. Some Christians have fled, others are still locked in their homes. The fate of Humayun is not known.
