21 June 2015: 12th Sunday in ordinary time

21 June 2015. This Sunday we celebrate the 12th Sunday in ordinary time.

The readings of today help us to reflect on the Lord’s power and care for us and invite us to trust in His help when the storms of life come our way. The Lord is not indifferent to our needs. In the gospel the apostles are at sea with Jesus when the storm struck. They feared for their lives. However, with their little faith they turned to Jesus who seemed not to care. He calmed the situation with his command. The boat can be seen as a symbol of Christianity. The storm on the lake represents the trials and tribulations that attack Christianity from within and outside. It also stands for personal storms we might face in our journey of life. These could be such problems as persecution, unemployment, sickness, family problems and loss.

We can learn from the apostles to turn to Christ for there is no force in life which He cannot overcome.
