Mexican helicopter shot at by drug cartel

(Vatican Radio)  A Mexican Navy helicopter, which was shot seven times by drug cartel gunmen, returned fire near the border with Texas, killing six of the attackers.

Listen to the report by James Blears:

Heavily armed men on the ground opened fire upon the Mexican Navy Blackhawk helicopter.  But the Mexican Marines in it shot back with deadly accuracy.

The incident occurred in Nuevo Laredo, just across the border from Texas in an area controlled by the Zetas drug cartel.

Although the helicopter was hit seven times by high velocity bullets, no one inside it was wounded and it stayed in the air.

Previously, on May 1st, gunmen from the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel in Western Mexico shot down a Mexican Army helicopter with a rocket launcher, killing ten of its occupants.
