Pope Francis nominates new Vatican officials


(Vatican Radio)  Pope Francis on Saturday made several official nominations to various Vatican positions. 

Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Archbishop of Manila in the Philippines, was appointed as a Member to the Pontifical Council ‘Cor Unum’, in addition to his current post as President of Caritas Internationalis.  Instituted by Pope Paul VI in 1971, ‘Cor Unum’ is the dispenser of charity in the name of the Holy Father and coordinates the organization and initiatives of the Catholic Church’s works of charity.

The Holy Father also nominated as Members of the Executive Board of Caritas InternationalisLucas Van Looy, Bishop of Gent and President of Caritas Europe; Youssef Antoine Soueif, Archbishop of Cipro and President of Caritas Cipro; and, Msgr. Gerard Patrick Burns, President of Caritas Oceania.

Pope Francis also nominated as Consulters to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints:  Msgr. Ennio Apeciti, priest of the Archdiocese of Milan and Rector of the Pontifical Lombardian Seminary of Sts. Ambrose and Charles in Rome; and Father Francesco Massagrande, priest of the Diocese of Verona and Member of the Pious Society of Don Nicola Mazza.

Finally, Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz Ossa, Archbishop-emeritus of Santiago in Chile was named as the Special Papal Envoy to the VI National Eucharistic Congress of Mexico, which will be celebrated in Monterrey on September 9-13, 2015.
