Mexican legal system "in knots" over drug lord escape

(Vatican Radio) The Mexican legal system is tying itself into knots about who has claim to the escaped leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, if he's re-arrested.

Joaquin "Shorty" Guzmán the leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, escaped from prison on July 11th, via a 1.5km purpose built tunnel.  

Prior to this, US Authorities  had formally applied for his extradition on June 25th, but Mexican Authorites ignored this.  

Belatedly, and prophetically, following the escape,  A Mexican Federal Judge issued an arrest warrent, linking it to the US procedure.  Only for Guzman's lawyers to promptly appeal, and for the process to be suspended and held in limbo, until there's yet another  ruling on this latest issue, towards the end of the month.
 
This is all in theory, because the bird has long flown the coop.  

But it does show the clumsy, unwieldly, literal red tape nature of the outdated Mexican legal system, which is having loopholes run plus weaved  around it. 

Meanwhile, the most poweful, cunning, resourceful, experienced and dangerous drug cartel leader in the World is back on the loose after a second escape from a so called máximum security prison in Mexico.
