Catholic Church in Kenya to have twenty Radio stations by 2020

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) through its Commission for Social Communications and Waumini Communications company, plans to have twenty Radio stations spread throughout the country by 2020 in order to evangelize widely to the people of Kenya.

This is envisaged in the just concluded strategic plan of 2016 to 2020 dubbed, “Waumini.com 2020.” The strategic plan is founded on past gains and lessons learned from present challenges. It seeks to create a sustainable, strategic and innovative future for Waumini Communications.

Addressing communication coordinators and radio managers at St. Mary’s Pastoral Centre in Nakuru on 3 August 2015, Bishop Joseph Obanyi of Kakamega Diocese who is also the Chairman for the Commission for social Communications congratulated the Kenyan Catholic communicators for the tremendous effort put into envisioning the strategic plan.

The strategic plan which is yet to be endorsed by the full Bishops’ Conference would not remain a document on paper only, said the Bishop Chair for Communications. “We want to see spiritual and social transformation of people, we want to see integral transformation of the human person” Bishop Obanyi said.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Waumini Communications, David Omwoyo expressed happiness in presenting to the Bishop the  Strategic Plan, “This Strategic Plan is a result of critical synthesis and integration of the mandate of Waumini Communications and the KCCB Commission for Social Communications,” he said.
