Hungary: border tensions high as migrants continue to seek refuge

(Vatican Radio) As migrants from the Middle East and Africa continue to flood into the Balkans and the other areas of Europe, the head of the U.N. refugee agency has said the European Union's asylum system is “completely dysfunctional”. He’s also urged the bloc to better coordinate its response to the influx of refugees.

Meanwhile, In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel  visited an asylum center yesterday in the eastern town of Heidenau that was the scene of weekend riots. The Chancellor urged Germans to stand up against hatred and vowed zero tolerance for attacks against refugees.

Hungary is continuing with controversial plans to reinforce its southern border with helicopters, mounted police and dogs, and is also considering using the army to confront the record number of migrants seeking entry into Europe through Hungary by crossing at the country’s border with Serbia.
