Sunday Liturgy: 22nd Sunday in ordinary time

Welcome to your Sunday Liturgy. This is the programme that accompanies you as you prepare for the Sunday Eucharistic celebration.

This Sunday, the Liturgical year is progressing steadily and we are in the 22nd Sunday in ordinary time.

You probably may have come across the statement which says “you are what you wear.” Yet we all have met people who are finely and decently dressed but  behave differently. Perhaps a more correct statement would be the one that says, “Not all that glitters is gold!” Looks can indeed be deceptive.

The readings for this Sunday’s Mass call upon us not to concentrate on our physical purity and appearance. This is what the hypocrites in Jesus’ time liked to do. We are reminded that what matters the most is our interior disposition. This is what matters in the eyes of God, for from our hearts comes everything that we do -be it love or hatred.

Jesus is against any form of hypocrisy. We may deceive others but surely we cannot deceive God who searches and knows human hearts.
