‘Keep your marriage vows’ – bishop to OFWs

Having trouble with long-distance relationships? Take a moment and remember your marriage vows and children said Bp. Ruperto Santos to Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The prelate made the statement in his homily during a Mass to mark the 20th National Seafarers' Sunday in Pasay City on Sept. 26.

As head of the Church’s migrants ministry, the prelate is aware that working in a foreign land can be very lonely and some are finding it difficult to keep their marriages alive and thriving and are  vulnerable to temptation.

Returning home

“Remember always your marital vows to your husbands and wives,” said Bishop Ruperto Santos, who chairs the CBCP Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People.

“Remember always your family and return to them. You have a family to return to. You should return to them and nothing else,” he said.

No to temptations

The bishop said there will always be temptations to sin, as he reminded the seafarers to always remember that they have a family waiting for them.

Like a ship, Santos said it will cruise straight to its destinations but it will always return to its port.

“Your family is your port. Your destination is the safety and success of your family. Remember them and at the right time, you will again see and be with them,” he said. (R. Lagarde / CBCPNews)
