Jonah in the Sistine Chapel

(Vatican Radio)  During morning Mass at the Casa Santa Marta on Tuesday 6th of October Pope Francis drew inspiration for his homily from the first reading of the Book of Jonah. Pointing out that Jonah  is initially resistant to God's will, but eventually learns that he must obey the Lord.

Now the depiction of Jonah is a favourite among artists among whom Michelangelo whose artistic masterpiece of the Prophet and the whale stands proud on the  walls of the Sistine Chapel above the Last Judgement fresco.
