Catholic Church in Ethiopia organises media workshop on Laudat sì

The Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (ECS) recently organised a 1-day workshop for journalists from the secular media on Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter, Laudato Sì.

Speaking at the event Rev. Fr. Seyoum Fransua, ECS Deputy Secretary General, said that Laudato sì addresses not just the Catholic community but the people of the world. He said, “The Encyclical Letter reminds us all about the danger our common home is facing and where it is headed if we do not act with great responsibility given  us by God to care for all creation. As Journalists, you have the responsibility to pass on this message to the people of Ethiopia through your reports,” he said.

The workshop facilitated by the Social Communications and Public Relations Department of the Secretariat aimed at familiarising media personnel with Catholic Social teaching on the environment. At the same occasion, efforts so far taken by the Catholic Church in Ethiopia to protect the environment; contribute to the green economy policy  of the government of Ethiopia were shared. Laudato sì was presented to the participants chapter by chapter in  the Amharic  language and discussed in an Ethiopian context.

Fr. Seyoum said such workshops are very important because they promote Catholic Church social teachings on various issues.

Journalists from the public and private media in Ethiopia attended the workshop with active participation.
