Kenya: USAID on the ground to promote long-term development

(Vatican Radio) Kenya is host to a large expat community that counts many experts working on the ground in areas of development.

Over the past 50 years, USAID has worked closely with the Kenyan government, the private sector, and civil society to advance access to education,  improve quality healthcare,  help lay a foundation for long-term economic growth through trade, agriculture, and infrastructure programs; and
make devolution work for the benefit of all Kenyans through democracy, governance and conflict programs.

Of course what Pope Francis will have to say when he addresses United Nations staff members in Nairobi will be of special interest to those who work in this field.

Vatican Radio’s Linda Bordoni spoke to Valerie Gwinner who is consulting with USAID on a big partnership programme that is currently working with pastoralists, whom she says are the most marginalized of poor, in Northern Kenya.
