Turks down Russian warplane in Syria

(Vatican Radio) Russia's defence ministry said on Tuesday one of its fighter jets was downed in Syria after coming under fire from the ground.

The Turkish military said it shot down a plane after it was repeatedly warned about violating Turkish airspace.

However, the Russian defence ministry said the Su-24 plane had not violated Turkish airspace.

Officials said "the plane was flying at a height of 6,000 meters. The fate of the pilots is yet to be confirmed. According to preliminary information, the pilots were able to eject."
