Bishop Muheria: Pope to bring hope to youth

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday will meet with thousands of young people in the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. Bishop Antony Muheria of Kitui is involved in the pastoral care of youth, and will greet the Holy Father during the encounter.

Bishop Muheria spoke with Vatican Radio’s Linda Bordoni prior to the event:

“It’s exciting, because the Holy Father has singled out [the encounter with the youth] as the highlight of his visit,” said Bishop Muheria. “I think he wants to bring a lot of hope to the young people, and to give them a direction, the energy so as to take the future of the country in their hands, in terms of restoring the ethical fibre, restoring the direction in terms of a country in unity and harmony, and overcoming the challenges they have, especially challenges of radicalization, lack of employment, leading them sometimes to despair.”

Bishop Muheria said the Holy Father’s visit was a “good opportunity . . . to lift up the hearts of these young [people], and warm them up.”
