Francis in Uganda: set to visit the House of Charity of Nalukolongo


(Vatican Radio) On Saturday 28th of November Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the House of Charity of ‘Nalukolongo Bakateyamba’ which lies ten  kilometres from Uganda’s capital Kampala.

The head of Vatican Radio’s French programme for Africa Father Jean-Pierre Bodjoko is currently in Kampala reporting on this second leg of the  Apostolic journey of Pope Francis to Africa.One which has taken him west from Kenya where he started the visit to this continent on the 25th of November. Ahead of the Pope’s arrival in Kampala Father Bodjoko called on the 'Good Samaritan Sisters' who run the operation and spoke to their administrator Sister Theresa of D’Avila Basemera.

Sister Theresa of D’Avila Basemera describes the work in the home where roughly a hundred poor and disabled are looked after. People on the margins of society, from all religions and cultures. The youngest of whom is a child of eleven and the oldest a man of 102. And not just from Uganda but also from Kenya, Tanzania, Ruanda and Burundi.
