African Capuchin Superiors meet in Lusaka

Superiors of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin of the Eastern African Capuchin Conference (EACC) gathered recently in Lusaka for their annual general meeting.

Meanwhile the Provincial Custos for Zambia, Fr.  Thomas Zulu, OFM Cap., has expressed pleasure at the many young people that have shown interest in joining the order.

“We have seen a rise in young people joining our Order. At St. Bonaventure University College in Lusaka we have 50 brothers this year, and next year we shall have 70 brothers,” He said. Fr. Zulu said this in an interview at the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Kapingila house where the annual general meeting took place.

Fr. Zulu has disclosed that one of the issues discussed by the Capuchin Superiors was that of the financial crisis the provinces and custodies are facing in the region.

“We have been dependent on the mother provinces for finances, but as you know funds in Europe are dwindling, so our meeting is trying to see how to sustain ourselves,” He noted.

Order of Friars Minor Capuchin of Eastern African Capuchin Conference (EACC) consists of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Madagascar. Others are Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia and Mozambique.
