Countdown begins in Benin Republic for the Taizé Pilgrimage of Trust

Preparations are underway in Cotonou in Benin Republic for the next stage of the Taizé Pilgrimage of Trust scheduled to take place from 31st August to 4 September 2016.

Thousands of young adults (between the ages of 18 and 30 years) from Benin, from West Africa and elsewhere are expected to attend the event.

The meeting aims to support young people in their spiritual quest. It is an encouragement to deepen trust in God, in oneself and in others.

The daily program includes prayer together and a time of sharing in the morning in the parishes, and in the afternoon at a central location.

Hospitality is an essential aspect of the pilgrimage, therefore participants from outside will be welcomed by parishes and local communities and offered accommodation in simple conditions.

The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic order located in France. Founded in 1940 by Brother Roger Schütz, it currently has over 100 brothers who come from Catholic and Protestant communions.

The order, which has a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation is currently headed by Frére Alois (Prior of Taizé Community).
