Zambia celebrates Blessed Engelmar’s Beatification

After the Beatification of Blessed Engelmar Unzeitig in Germany on 24 September 2016, the Zambian unit of the Mariannhill congregation (CMM) this week celebrated a thanksgiving Mass for the beatification. It was also an opportunity to make known the newly Blessed of the Church to the faithful of the Archdiocese of Lusaka and Zambia. .

The rainy day celebrations turned out to be a joyous and solemn occasion for the CMM family of priests, brothers, students and CMM Associates.

The Holy Mass in honour of Blessed Engelmar prophetically took place at Englemar House of Formation in Lusaka. The house is situated about 7km south of the city centre. In attendance were most Mariannhill priests and brothers working and living in Zambia; the Precious Blood Sisters; local Archdiocesan clergy as well various religious men and women from the Archdiocese of Lusaka. The Mass was graced by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, Fr Oliver Mukunta who was the principal celebrant.

In his homily, Fr Mukunta drew various aspects and qualities that can be learned from the life, words, actions and attitudes of Blessed Engelmar.  During the same liturgical celebration, eleven candidates currently living at Blessed Engelmar House of Formation and attending philosophical studies at Saint Bonaventure University College, were conferred with medals of Mariannhill Missionaries.

After the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, there was a festive lunch for all present. There was also an exhibition tour of the life of Blessed Engelmar Unzeitig in pictures. The documentary video was also shown.
