(Vatican Radio) Franciscan Friars in Assisi have appealed to the international community to stop the violence in Syria.

A statement released on Friday by the Press Office and signed by Father Mauro Gambetti, Custodian of the Sacred Convent of Assisi said:  “It is war. It is carnage upon carnage. War is the face of evil. The international community has the duty to stop the violence. It is the duty of us all. May human lives be saved and may humanitarian help be guaranteed. From Assisi a prayer is raised for all those who are suffering in this moment. The hope is that reasons of peace may prevail.”
