Pope Francis has appealed for moderation and dialogue after a surge of violence and killings over Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. He was addressing the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus prayer.

Across East Africa, millions face starvation because of drought, lack of food, and civil war. The UN has described this as the largest humanitarian crisis in more than 70 years. CAFOD has launched an appeal to provide urgenet supplies to some 16 million people facing hunger int he region.

Faith leaders in Canada are calling for a concrete response to famines in South Sudan, Yemen, northeast Nigeria and Somalia. The appeal was issued by Catholic Bishops together with other Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Baha’i faith leaders.

Pope Francis has appealed for an end to violence in Venezuela and for respect of human rights in the country where nearly 30 people have been killed in unrest this month. The Pope’s appeal came on Sunday before the recitation of the Regina Caeli prayer in St. Peter’s Square.

Pope Francis has expressed deep pain for the tragedy that has struck the city of Mocoa in Colombia where a gigantic landslide has killed overt 250 people and left scores missing. The Pope's words came after the Angelus prayer during his visit to the Italian town of Carpi.
