Cardinal Roberto Tucci dies

Cardinal Roberto Tucci died Tuesday night in Rome.  Having been Director General of Vatican Radio from 1973 to 1985, he was made a cardinal by Pope St. John Paul II on February 21, 2001. He also served as the organizer of all Pope John Paul II’s papal visits.

(Vatican Radio) While it's common knowledge that Saint John Paul II played an instrumental role in the fall of communism, it seems he acknowledged this to a lesser extent than some of the leading political figures of his day.
