George Johannes is the very first South African Ambassador to the Holy See to reside here in Rome. He presented his credentials to Pope Francis at the beginning of June and is currently in the throes of setting up an office that was previously based in Berne, Switzerland.

 The Holy See's Apostolic Nuncio to the UN, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, has called for governments to promote the “true development” of indigenous peoples, especially in “the harmonization of their right to cultural and social development alongside economic development”.
