Englishman Paul Haines is traveling from Rome to Jerusalem on foot to focus attention on peace and reconciliation. His journey, in aid of charity, will take him through Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, and then to Israel.

 Pope Francis sent a telegram to Italy's President as he flew across the Italian peninsula on his way to Sarajevo for a one day pastoral visit Saturday.  The Pope said he hoped his visit would promote "encounter and dialogue among different cultures and religions".

Sri Lanka hopes to set up a domestic inquiry into atrocities from the civil war, President Sirisena has told the BBC. He said UN investigators would not take part in the inquiry, but their views would be taken into account.
