Human rights groups, religious leaders, lawmakers and the United Nations have all called on the Sri Lankan government to take immediate action against sectarian violence in the country.

The EU is restoring a preferential tax concession for imports from Lanka that the country lost over alleged human rights abuses but the South Asian nation’s progress in human rights will be closely monitored.

A movie based on the life St. Joseph Vaz had its Tamil version launch in Colombo April 25.  St. Joseph Vaz a missionary from the Portuguese colony of Goa on the western coast of India was an Oratorian priest and described as ‘Asia’s greatest missionary’.
