Pope Francis marked World Food Day at the FAO in Rome, calling for concerted efforts to end conflicts and climate-change in the fight against hunger.

16 October 2016: World Food Day addresses climate change

October 16th marks the celebration of World Food Day. It was established in 1979 to honor the founding date of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. Today it is observed across the globe by more than 150 countries, raising awareness to issues that cause hunger and poverty.

In a report ahead of Oct. 16 World Food Day, UNICEF says five out of six children under two years old in developing countries are not getting enough of the right kinds of food, putting them at risk of irreversible mental and physical damage.

Pope: to fight hunger combat climate change

World Food Day is being observed this Sunday October 16th with the theme "the climate is changing.” In a message issued Friday to mark the occasion, Pope Francis said everyone has a responsibility to protect the planet for future generations.

On October 16 we mark World Food Day. Although refugees and forcibly displaced people make up a tiny portion of those suffering from chronic hunger and malnutrition, World Food Day offers an occasion to shine the light on the fact that too many of them are denied the basic right to food.
