Fr. Peter Ebere Okpaleke is the new bishop of Ahiara Diocese in Nigeria
The Holy Father on Friday appointed Fr. Peter Ebere Okpaleke of the clergy of Awka,
in Nigeria to be bishop of Ahiara Diocese. The bishop-elect was born in Amesi, Nigeria
in 1963 and ordained a priest in 1992. He undertook higher studies in Canon Law at
the Holy Cross Pontifical University in Rome, and has held a number of pastoral roles.
He is currently a judge at the inter-diocesan tribunal of Onitsha. He is going to
take over a diocese with a population of 620 000 out of whom 478 000 are Catholics
administered to by 127 priests and 113 religious.
