Vatican-supported interreligious forum opens in Vienna

(Vatican Radio) The first-ever Global Forum of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and intercultural Dialogue opens Monday morning in Vienna, Austria. Known by its acronym, KAICIID, the centre is an international organization recognized by the UN, of which the Holy See is a Founding Observer. The 2013 Global Forum is dedicated to the first of a three-part programme on The Image of the Other, specifically, intercultural and interreligious education.
The KAICIID Forum is bringing together 450 participants from various areas of expertise and practice, from religious leaders to educators to policy-makers over two days, to exchange best practices and expand the search for ways to educate people so they might better understand one another and more accurately and fairly teach about people who practice religions and inhabit cultures different from their own.
Curriculum development and training for civic and interreligious education, the art of dialogue, and youth initiatives are just some of the topics being discussed. The President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, is slated to be among the speakers at Monday morning’s general assembly.
