(Vatican Radio)The Vatican Media Centre which will cover both the Easter celebrations and the canonizations of Pope John XXIII and John Paul II was launched on Thursday.

The Press Office of the Holy See will have overall control of the centre but co-ordination will also be provided by Vatican Radio, the Vatican Television Center and the various Management and Services of the Governorate of Vatican City .

The Vatican Media Centre, which is located in the Paul the VI hall, will be divided into three areas: print, television and radio. The radio section will be managed by Vatican Radio in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)

So what can journalists expect? Well, those accredited will be able to make use of workstations, radio studios and commentary booths for those broadcasters who want to send their journalists to the Vatican during this period.

Speaking about the centre the Head of International Relations at Vatican Radio, Giacomo Ghisani said, “it (the Vatican Media Centre) will be covering both the Easter period, the Tridium and the Canonization. The reason for this is that we realized there’s a growing interest the papal events and papal activities and therefore it was useful for everybody to assure facilities for all radios, TV’s and broadcasters in general that will be in Rome for these events.”

The Vatican Media Center will be open from 10 to 30 April. Listen to Lydia O’Kane’s interview with Giacomo Ghisani RealAudioMP3
